Soft Cedar was honoured to premiere new music by Lightning Dust on June 2nd in the Historic Theatre at The Cultch. Synth wizard, Jeremy Schmidt opened the night with his project Sinoia Caves. Josh Wells and Amber Webber were joined their electro-acoustic band, as well as special guests Peggy Lee (cello) and Meredith Bates (violin). 

As a way of documenting the work we present on our stages and to encourage more critical writing about Vancouver's music scene, Soft Cedar asks someone to write a reflection on each event we produce. Here is writer Julianna Moore's piece about the April 21st event:

Rain from low and broken cloud
First touching mountaintops
Falls soft then fast and frantic
Slows a bit but never stops


It washes sidewalks, faces, slates
A soft glow bathed in stage
We’re scrambling around to find
Our name, address and age.


Now symbols, strings, electric fog
In waves I feel her sing
200 faces beaming love
Beyond not anything


First ember of bonfire
First ascending face of moon
First flash of rushing crystal tunnels
These rooftops could cave soon


All the quiet knives we hold
Just trying to maintain
Yet here tonight we lose them
In this freshly fallen rain


Now symbols, strings, electric fog
In waves I feel her sing
200 faces beaming love
Beyond not anything


The frozen is now flowing
Twisting, swirling, blowing free
We’re dancing on a line between
The past and fantasy


These harmonies that see no end
What is this place we’ve found?
Tonight we float like mist above
Desire’s highest ground
